From Brief to Story: The Vivek Patel Way of Custom Dressing
Blog post: How Vivek Patel Studio creates custom designer garments from your brief to your story
Design Journal · Vivek Patel Studio
Getting a designer garment made should feel like a conversation, not a transaction. Here is exactly how we make that happen — from your very first thought to the final fitting.
Why most custom clothing still isn't truly custom
Most fashion brands offer a version of customisation — a monogram here, a colour option there. But at Vivek Patel Studio, we start from a different question entirely: what do you want to say, and how do you want to be seen?
Every garment we make is built end-to-end around you — your occasion, your body, your memory, your mood. Our process is not a product catalogue with options. It is a creative collaboration where the brief itself is the beginning of the design.
Begin with a feeling, not a design
You may come to us without knowing exactly what you want. That is perfectly fine — in fact, it is often where the most interesting work begins. You do not need to arrive with a Pinterest board or a reference image. You need only a feeling, an occasion, or even a memory.
Tell us what the garment needs to do for you. Is it for a wedding, a reception, a family celebration, a date, or a power meeting? Is it for the morning, the evening, an outdoor ceremony, or a candlelit dinner? The context shapes everything — silhouette, fabric weight, colour, embellishment density.
"You want to inculcate a motif from a childhood memory. You want to tell a story through your clothes. We can accommodate all of that in our design language."

Every dimension of your garment is yours to shape
When we say customisation, we mean it in the fullest possible sense. Here is what you can define, guide, or simply express a preference about — and we will translate it into the garment.
Occasion & Season
Tell us the exact occasion, the time of day, the season, and even the setting. A festive lunch calls for something entirely different from a winter evening ceremony.
Colour Guidance
Not sure what works for your skin tone or wardrobe? We offer colour consultation — from full colour swatches to advice on what will complement you best.
Silhouette & Body Fit
We work with your body type to recommend and refine silhouettes that feel both flattering and expressive — structured, draped, tailored, or fluid.
Narrative & Expression
Do you want to express power? Quiet drama? Maximalism or restraint? We translate the story you want to tell into every design choice we make.
Dressing your whole family — and your couple — as one vision
One of the things that sets us apart is that we think beyond the individual garment. We work with families dressing for the same occasion, coordinating ensembles so that each person looks complete on their own and cohesive together.
For couples, we design with a shared visual language in mind — complementary palettes, echoing motifs, or matching embellishment details that tell a unified story without being identical. Whether it is a wedding, an anniversary occasion, or a family festive gathering, the entire group can be dressed through a single, considered brief.

How a garment moves from conversation to creation
Our process is structured but never rigid. Every stage has room for your input, your changes, and your instincts.
Step 01
The Brief
We begin with a conversation — your occasion, your mood, your aesthetic references, and anything personal you want the garment to carry. There is no such thing as too vague or too specific at this stage.
Step 02
Sketches
We translate the brief into initial sketches that interpret your vision in our design language. These are shared with you for feedback, and we refine until the silhouette and aesthetic feel exactly right.
Step 03
Fabric & Colour Swatches
Once the design direction is set, we present you with physical fabric swatches and colour options. You see the materials in your hands — the weight, texture, and drape — before any commitment is made.
Step 04
Drape on Mannequin
We show you how the chosen fabric drapes on a mannequin so you can visualise the fall and volume of the garment before it is cut. This step removes uncertainty and builds your confidence in the design.
Step 05
Making — With Your Voice
The creation process itself remains open to your input. As embellishment, detail, and construction progress, you can ask for adjustments — denser or lighter embroidery, proportional changes, or subtle tweaks — and we accommodate them.
Step 06
Fitting & Finish
The final garment is fitted, adjusted, and finished to your precise measurements. What you receive is not an approximate — it is made for you, and only you.

Luxury that works with your world
We understand that real life has deadlines and budgets. We are transparent about what is achievable in your timeline, and we work hard to stay within the parameters you give us — without compromising the integrity of the garment.
If you are working with a very specific budget, tell us at the outset. We will shape the design, fabric choices, and embellishment to deliver the most beautiful garment possible within that frame. Luxury is not always about cost — it is about intentionality, fit, and craft.
You don't need a vision. You just need to start.
Perhaps you know nothing beyond the fact that you have an occasion coming up and you want to look extraordinary. That is enough. We can start from the very beginning — with just a date, a venue, and a conversation — and build everything from there.
Tell us what you are trying to achieve. Tell us how much time you have. That is the only brief we need to begin.
